- Nighthawks, Edward Hopper, 1942, oil on canvas (2026) — This painting is a diner with a low number of customers. It showcases one waiter with a dim light above them while the outside of the diner is dark and gloomy. This is there to emphasize the quiet on the street. The man and woman sit next to each other while another man sits alone. The large clear windows allow us to look into the diner. The contrast from the yellow light to the dark streets create an isolating feeling. The formatting of the painting creates a triangle and it allows viewers to direct their attention toward the interior space.
- Self Portrait with Cropped Hair, Frida Kahlo, 1940, Oil on canvas (2026) — Frida Kahlo’s Self-Portrait with Cropped Hair shows Frida Kahlo in a wooden chair at the center of the composition. She is shown in an oversized suit typically suited for men, this is there to contrast the traditional view on feminism. She makes and appearance in another form, by cutting her hair short and shows strands of hair on the ground. This is a symbol to show the shedding of Frida’s typical femininity. Kahlo is also shown holding a pair of scissors and stares the viewer in the face creating an intense tension with the viewer.

The arms of the figure are long and lengthy but loose at the sides, indicating he was walking. The texture is shown to be rough creating a heavily textured figure. Viewers see this as a unfinished appearance.
- Balkan Baroque, Marina Abramovic, 1997, Performance (documented through photography and video) (2026) — Balkan Baroque is a performance by Marina Abramovic. She sat upon a large pile of animal bones scrubbing them over and over again for hours. The bones were stained all around her, it stained her in the process of scrubbing. During the performance Marina sang things from her childhood and continued to clean and dispute the uncomfortable environment.

The figure is holding it’s face in an act of horror with it’s mouth open and eyes wide. This painting is presenting a feeling of fear to the viewers. The landscape has a fiery colored background with a bit of distance in the hills. The figure is simply and almost like a skeleton that merges with the waves of the backgrounds.
